The top wrestlers from all three divisions of the NHIAA competed against each other at the Meet of Champions on Saturday at Londonderry High School, battling for the title of a true state champion and for spots at New Englands.
As has been the case in tournaments all season long, Concord didn’t have any individual champions in the coed bracket but had several wrestlers place in the top six.
Junior Wayne Gutierrez-Sakakeeny finished second in the 285-pound weight class, winning three bouts with three first-period pins to reach the final before falling to Manchester Memorial’s Jayden Kuilan by pin in the third period.
Gutierrez-Sakakeeny, and all others who finished in the top three of their bracket, qualified for New Englands, which will be held this weekend at Providence Career and Technical Academy in Rhode Island.
Bow senior Jackson Hall (third 215) and junior Chase Flagg (third 190) also qualified for New Englands, with Hall going 5-1 in his bouts and Flagg ending the day 4-1.
Biswas Darji (fourth 106), Jaxon Carter (fourth 144), Isaiah Puckett (fifth 215), Max Chung (fifth 157) and Owen Gregg (fifth 126) placed for Concord. The Tide finished fifth as a team with 107.5 points, behind Timberlane (180), Salem (137.5), Pinkerton (117) and Keene (112.5).
John Stark’s Sean Crean (fourth 113), and Winnisquam’s David Jean (fifth 175) and Aemon Gauthier (sixth 132) also placed.
For the third year, the NHIAA Meet of Champions also served as the girls’ state championship meet, with more teams and individuals competing than the previous two editions.
