Starting Sunday, drivers on Route 106 will notice increased law enforcement as the New Hampshire Office of Highway Safety steps up efforts to crack down on unsafe driving and reduce crashes.

This high-visibility enforcement effort will span a 35-mile stretch through Merrimack and Belknap counties—an area where 10 people have lost their lives in crashes since the start of 2021.

“Route 106 is a busy thoroughfare connecting residents, business owners, and visitors from the Capital Region to the Lakes Region,” said Eddie Edwards, assistant commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Safety, in an email statement. “We hope that this enforcement effort will educate drivers about the risks of dangerous behaviors behind the wheel and encourage them to make safer choices.”

It is expected that law enforcement from state, county and local levels will be working together to prevent speeding, impaired driving, distractions, and reckless driving behaviors to prevent crashes, reduce injuries and saving lives.

This effort is funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration through grants provided to the state Highway Safety Department.
