High schools: Concord sweeps Tuesday matches

Girls’ Soccer

Concord 3, Alvirne 0

Key players: Concord – Kate Dickson (goal, assist), Maddie Brown (goal), Julia Russell (goal)

Highlights: The Crimson Tide played on the front foot and controlled the game from start to finish. In the 70th minute, Brown opened the scoring with a left-footed shot from 25 yards out on her 17th birthday. Two minutes later Kate Dickson put a beautiful free kick over the Alvirne keeper’s head to extend the lead. Dickson served a corner into the box that Russell hit home.

Coach’s quote: “The girls played very well right from the start and competed the whole game. It is good to get a win going into the second half of the season and need to continue to build on that.” – Concord’s Andrew Mattarazzo

Bow 2, Milford 1

Key players: Bow – Ashley Wallen (2 goals), Anna Fellers (assist), Cara Van Dyke (assist), Abby Foote (defense), Charlotte Larochelle (defense), Vivian Madden (defense), Maeve Nadzan (defense), Madison Pfister (defense), Marissa Reyes (midfield), Anna Zerba (midfield), Lexi Insana (midfield), Ella Murphy (forward), Brylie Gelinas (forward), Gwen Barrieau (goalie)

Highlights: Wallen scored the first of her two goals in the 73rd minute off a corner kick and scramble in front of the net. The second goal about two minutes later was came from a feed from Van Dyke, who made couple of nice moves down the sideline to beat the defender and played a nice diagonal ball into the box. Milford scored in the last two minutes of the match off a direct kick.

Coe-Brown 5, Lebanon 0

Key players: Coe-Brown – Bella Lapierre (2 goals), Ellie Escabi (goal, assist), Jaelyn Demers (goal, assist), Emma Place (goal), Jadyn Spearin (assist), Mallory Carri (assist)

Highlights: Lapierre scored in the 27th minute to put the Bears up 1-0 at the half. Spearin fed Demers in the 18 for a goal just one minute into the second half to go up 2-0. From there, the midfield held possession as Demers assisted to Ellie Escabi. Lapierre added another goal off a rebound and Place finished a deep shot from outside the 18 to seal the win. Maggie Escabi, Jen Noni, and Amanda Thomas all played well for Coe-Brown.

Coach’s quote: “This was a game we challenged the team to step up and play a more consistent game. They did that on the road and there was a well-balanced attack. Solid win going into a tough stretch of games coming up.” – Coe-Brown’s Josh Hils

John Stark 2, Kingswood 0

Key players: John Stark – Avery Pellerin (goal), Madison Lamothe (goal), Ava Rivers (assist), Haley Stafford (assist), Lexi Boudreau (7 saves, clean sheet)

Coach’s quote: “Kingswood plays with good shape at the back, so it took a bit to problem solve that and find the back of the net. This was a good result for the team.” – John Stark’s Eddie Marceau

ConVal 2, Pembroke 1

Key players: Pembroke – Lindsey Jones (goal), Giuls Davis (assist), Kendall Purtell (defense), Lily Royer (defense), Saydi Desrosiers (defense), Laila Al Shawafi (goalie)

Highlights:  The Spartans couldn’t quite bounce back from an early and late charge from the Cougars. Davis, from center back, found Jones with a pass late in the first half to tie the game, 1-1, heading into halftime. Pembroke had more shots on goal and more possession than ConVal, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win.

Coach’s quote: “We told the girls tonight we knew of a Pembroke girls’ varsity soccer team that was 3-4 at this time last year.  That team looked within themselves to reach great heights. This team has many of those girls and is capable of the same.” – Pembroke’s Jess Kaufman-Desrochers

Fall Mountain 3, Hillsboro-Deering 0

Key players: H-D – Alexis Laporte (13 saves), Emma Davis (offense), Kathryn Thyng (offense), Molly Smart (defense)

Highlights: Smart led H-D’s defense in limiting Fall Mountain’s offensive chances, and Thyng and Davis provided a lot of pressure on the Wildcats’ solid back line, but couldn’t capitalize on any chances.

Coach’s quote: “Our girls stayed positive and did not give up against Fall Mountain’s disciplined team. We are seeing more connectedness between our defense, midfield and strikers. I am proud of the collective effort. We will use this game to prepare for Friday.” – H-D’s Jenna Rheault

Boys’ Soccer

Concord 2, Alvirne 1

Key players: Concord – Irankunda Mvuyekure (goal), Dean Ayotte (goal), Festo Bahininwa (9 saves)

Highlights: Mvuyekure scored in the 11th minute on an individual effort, beating a defender into the penalty box and slipping the ball by the goalkeeper. Ayotte scored 10 minutes into the second half, hitting a shot from 25 yards into upper right corner. Alvirne responded a minute later to cut the lead in half.

Records: Concord 2-6-0; Alvirne 0-5-2

Lebanon 2, Coe-Brown 0

Key players:  Coe-Brown – Ryan Kouchoukos (midfield), Brady Colgan (midfield)

Highlights: Midway through the first half, Lebanon ran a pick and roll on a corner kick and sauntered in for a free header.

Coach’s quote: “We gave up two goals that were preventable, but as soccer goes, small mistakes can be costly. I’m encouraged by our performance against a very solid Lebanon team. If we stay engaged and urgent during entire matches, we have potential ahead.” – Coe-Brown’s Christian Gompert

Field Hockey

Merrimack Valley 4, Derryfield 0

Key players: MV – Marissa Kimball (goal), Abbey Thompson (goal), Izzy Tucker (goal), Alyssa Brodeur (goal)

Highlights: MV opened the scoring two minutes into the second quarter when Kimball put back a rebound from the Derryfield goalie’s pads. Thompson scored eight minutes later off a shot from the top of the circle on a penalty corner. Tucker and Brodeur both scored in the fourth quarter. MV had 14 penalty corners and Derryfield only had one.

Coach’s quote: “I thought the girls did a good job with being aggressive in the circle. It is always nice to have four different goal scorers. We controlled the pace of play and worked to stretch the field to create space for ourselves offensively.” – MV’s Jennifer Colgan

Pembroke 1, Pelham 0, OT

Key players: Pembroke  – Phoebe Morris (goal), Annika Jawidzik (goalkeeper), Riley Caron (defensive play)

Highlights: Morris netted her first goal of the season in overtime to give the Spartans a big win over the Pythons. IJawidzik kept the game scoreless  in the second half with a post-to-post save. Despite controlling much of the second half, Pelham survived a scare when Riley Caron pulled a ball off the goal line after a Pythons’ shot had gotten behind Jawidzik.

Coach’s quote: “I’m so happy for Phoebe and the whole team. She and everyone has been working so hard, but not getting the results they wanted. And we came up with some big plays defensively when we needed to. It was an intense battle from both teams throughout.” – Pembroke’s Steve Langevin

Berlin 1, Bishop Brady 0

Key players: Bishop Brady – Kimble Rose, Camdyn Despres, Payton Bryson, Marcella Tonge, Ella Blanchette

Highlights: Brady had four penalty corners in the first quarter, but the game was scoreless until Berlin scored at 6:25 in the second quarter. The Giants continued to have several scoring opportunities, but couldn’t find the back of the cage.

Coach’s quote: “We had some adversity to overcome today and the team responded. Very pleased with how they all stepped up. We have a lot of field hockey to play and are looking forward to it.” – Bishop Brady’s Kelly Owen

Golf

Key players: Concord – Zach Nelson (35), Carl Sirrianna (36), Holden Martin (38), Jaden Haas (38), Parker Lamb (38)

Highlights: Nelson earned medalist honors as the Tide swept its final home match of the season.

Records: Concord 19-2; Londonderry 10-7; Spaulding 6-16; Merrimack 3-16

Bishop Brady 97, Coe-Brown 72, Lebanon 65, Sanborn 62

Key players: Bishop Brady – Mady Savary (36, 28 points), Cam Fortier (38, 24 points), Chase Connor (38, 24 points), Peyton Cone (39, 23 points), Aiden Boule (40, 22 points); Coe-Brown – Alex Myslinski (21 points), Colby Strum (21 points), William Marshall (16 points), Matt Hamer (14 points)

Highlights: The Giants claimed the top five spots, led by medalist Savary, for a commanding victory at Nippo Lake on Tuesday.

Coach’s quote: “Whole team under 45 is just awesome. I am beyond proud of the hard work they are all putting in. Hopefully we can keep it going, great of Coe-Brown and Nippo for hosting. All the teams had fun.” – Bishop Brady’s Jason Bird
