Boys’ Basketball

Trinity 81, Concord 35

Key players: Trinity – Connor Bishop (14 points), Connor Cote (13 points); Concord – Holden Martin (13 points), Jackson Harerimana (5 points), Landon Perez (5 points)

Highlights: Martin, Concord’s lone senior, led the Tide on senior night.

Records: Trinity 13-4; Concord 0-17

Coe-Brown 67, Pembroke 61

Key players: Coe-Brown – Matthew Flanagan (23 points, 6 rebounds), Grant Hayes (21 points, 6 rebounds), Ryan Kouchoukos (10 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists), Jack Matson (8 points, 13 rebounds); Pembroke  – Evan Berkeley (16 points), Connor Craig (13 points), Andrew Fitzgerald (13 points)

Highlights: Pembroke led by seven at halftime, but the Bears came back in the second half to upset the Spartans on their home floor.

Records: Coe-Brown 13-4; Pembroke 14-2

Merrimack Valley 61, Hollis-Brookline 57

Key players: MV – Aiden Gray (25 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists), Brady Smith (11 points, 3 assists), Nic Oglesby (8 points, 6 rebounds); Hollis-Brookline – Alton Williams (15 points)

Highlights: MV was able to close the game on a 8-0 run to pull ahead after a back-and-forth contest for most of the night. Gray found Rodier Phaneuf under the basket with 20 seconds left to put MV up two. The Pride had a big defensive stop and Oglesby hit two free throws to ice the game.

Lebanon 48, John Stark 46

Key players: John Stark – Hayden Pond (16 points), Avery Grolljahn (12 points, 9 rebounds), Joey Dykstra (10 points)

Highlights: The Generals led early, but Lebanon took the lead in the second half, setting up a back-and-forth fourth quarter where the Raiders eventually found the winning basket.

Coach’s quote: “We were missing some guys and then we lost Aiden at the end of the first. Everyone stepped up and I was very proud of how they fought through a tough game and a tough week. Avery really stepped up. As a coach, that’s really all you can ask. Tough kids.” – John Stark’s Mike Smith

Girls’ Basketball

Pembroke 58, Coe-Brown 57

Key players: Pembroke – Kate Stephens (19 points), Kaitlin Arenella (14 points), Ava Strazzeri (8 points off the bench); Coe-Brown – Emma LaPierre (21 points), Madison Taylor (10 points), Hannah Meehan (7 points), Jennifer Noni (6 points)

Highlights: Coe-Brown led by as many as 12 in the fourth quarter and still led 56-47 under two minutes to go, but Arenella and Strazzeri hit 3-pointers to cut the margin to 57-53 with a 1:05 remaining. Arenella got the Spartans within two with a driving layup. Following a steal by Anne Phillips, Arenella scored on another drive and was fouled with 18 seconds remaining, calmly sinking the free throw to give the Spartans a 58-57 lead. Pembroke’s defense made one final defensive stop to complete the comeback.

Coaches’ quotes: “Coe-Brown played very well. It was looking pretty bleak, but when they pulled the ball out we started trapping everywhere and forced some turnovers and hit some big shots. It showed a lot of resiliency by the girls to make up that deficit at the end.” – Pembroke’s Steve Langevin

Merrimack Valley 61, Hollis-Brookline 27

Key players: MV – Kayla Smith (23 points), Jada Lucas (13 points), Syd Bailey (9 points)

Highlights: The Pride led 20-4 at the end of the first quarter and 35-13 at halftime in a commanding victory.

Coach’s quote: “We played well tonight and I’m proud of the way the girls are playing. We seem to be hitting a good stride and hopefully continue moving forward.” – MV’s Bob McNutt

Sanborn 50, Bishop Brady 45

Key players: Bishop Brady  – Maia Dow (season-high 18 points, 16 in the 2nd half), Claire Jackson (9 points), Ella Blanchette (6 points, defense), Juliette McLaughlin (5 points)

Highlights: Sanborn took an 18-14 lead into halftime and outscored Brady 23-15 in the third quarter to take a 41-29 lead into the fourth. The Giants outscored Sanborn 15-9 over the final eight minutes thanks to a strong man-to-man defense, but Sanborn connected on key free throws down the stretch.

Coach’s quote: “Our team was looking for a spark not having senior captain Payton Bryson tonight. Maia stepped up big for us … we had to lean on the freshmen (Blanchette and McLaughlin) to keep us in the game. Brady was 10-for-23 from the free throw line which cost us the game.” – Bishop Brady’s Steve Aubertine

Lebanon 45, John Stark 37

Key players: John Stark – Haley Stafford (10 points, 10 rebounds), Kylie Dinan (9 points, 5 rebounds)

Highlights: The Generals kept up with the Raiders in a back-and-forth game until the third quarter when Lebanon pulled away.

Boys’ Hockey

Concord 5, Londonderry 0

Key players: Concord – Austin Proulx (2 goals), Rowan Arndt (3 assists), Jaden Haas (goal), Tyler Mayo (goal), Cam Chandonnet (goal)

Highlights: Concord jumped out to 2-0 lead in first on goals by Haas and Proulx, and the Tide netted three more goals in the second period.

Coach’s quote: “We came out strong and really moved the puck great tonight. We could have had more, but Londonderry’s goalie was good. It was a good win for us and we just need to to say focused as we get close to tourney time.” – Concord’s Dunc Walsh

Girls’ Hockey

Concord 7, Souhegan 0

Key players: Concord – Addison MacNevin (goalie, shutout), Brooke Nelson (2 goals), Malie Rashaw (goal), Claire Brown (goal), Grace Mullen (goal), Abby Colby (goal), Elliana Wing (goal)

Highlights: The Tide bounced back from a tough loss early in the week with a shutout over the Sabers. Concord is currently in second place in the standings.
