Letter: Seniors deserve healthcare options

As a nurse, I’m no stranger to the ups and downs of life. Aging wear and tear and illnesses happen despite our best efforts to stay healthy. When they do, New Hampshire seniors deserve to know they have easy access to reliable healthcare options that meet their distinct needs.

Medicare Advantage does just that. Lawmakers need to do all they can to support and protect the program. Reliability and variety are just two parts of Medicare Advantage’s strong benefits. I’ve also seen how the Medicare Advantage program provides flexibility, accessibility and affordability, allowing seniors to take care of their health without crushing costs or asking family members to take up the burden of the bills. With those benefits in mind, it’s no surprise that Medicare Advantage is so popular with participants. From my experience, people like and appreciate the program and, no doubt, the lawmakers who support it.

Despite its demonstrated success and popularity, Medicare Advantage has undergone successive years of funding cuts. Additional cuts are perpetually on the horizon, threatening the health and safety of senior populations across the country, including here in New Hampshire. With that in mind, I’d like to see our Congressional delegation work together to protect Medicare Advantage funding and give seniors the healthcare peace of mind they deserve.
