Letter: Observations

Nikki Haley has done us a great service. In her attempts to explain her response to the “gaffe” she has revealed the heart of today’s Republican Party. Although she claims “government was intended to secure the rights and freedoms of the people,” I see little evidence that she or her party has any intention of doing that.
Think of the states, including New Hampshire, that redraw voting districts to favor one party’s representation. Think of the explosion of laws denying a woman’s rights and freedom over her body. Texas is a prime example. Think of the determination to exclude LGBTQ+ citizens from appropriate healthcare. Think of the push to censor what is taught in our public schools and what books are available on public library shelves. The NH Commissioner of Education comes to my mind.
Nikki Haley is definitely a softer, less strident version of the Republican front-runner. Her policy priorities are the same.
