Letter: Have Republicans resurrected the He-Man Woman-Haters Club?

Those of a certain age will remember watching reruns of Our Gang, also known as The Little Rascals. It was about a group of young boys and girls doing the things that young people of their day did. One recurring theme was that the boys had meetings as members of a He-Man Woman-Haters Club, led by Spanky despite his best friend Alfalfa’s clear crush on another character, Darla. It appears that Republicans have resurrected that club in recent years.

Republicans take no issue with following men who have been accused of or found guilty of sexual assault. They don’t seem to care that some of their colleagues and role models are serial adulterers. Despite going to great lengths to warn the American public about rapists coming over the border or terrorists raping women abroad, they have no qualms about forcing a woman to have a rapist’s or terrorist’s child. Hey Pentagon, good luck recruiting any women.

More locally, there is an effort underway to deny young women the simple courtesy of accessing feminine hygiene products at school. Perhaps schools should also make toilet paper a “bring your own” policy as a cost-cutting measure. The Republican Party has been pretty anti-woman and anti-common sense in general lately, and it appears to be getting worse. Congratulations, Spanky . . .
