Charges are “forthcoming” in a shooting that occurred in Rollins Park on Monday, Concord Police said Friday.

Few details have been released about the shooting, which left one person wounded. They were struck in the head but sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were released from Concord Hospital Thursday evening, according to Deputy Chief of Police John Thomas.

Concord police responded to the area of Rollins Park around 8:45 p.m. last Monday. Residents in the area reported hearing gunshots, but when officers arrived no one involved with the shooting remained in the park. Police found one person who had been wounded. On Pierce Street, another person was detained but not charged, Thomas said.

The morning after the incident, police said that everyone involved had been “located and identified” and that there was no ongoing danger to the public.

City parks can attract “undesirable” activity at night, Thomas said. It’s part of why the department increases its patrols in those areas after sunset.

“Does Rollins attract it more than others? I wouldn’t say that,” Thomas said, though he noted that the department had strengthened its monitoring of Rollins since the shooting.

On Tuesday, Mayor Byron Champlin released a joint statement with state Senate candidate Tara Reardon expressing their concern not only with the shooting but with the “subsequent finding of a handgun on a couch at a home with children present.” Citing the ongoing nature of the investigation, Thomas was unable to confirm the validity of the statement.
