High schools: Lovett’s 2 HR leads Coe-Brown softball over Oyster River in championship rematch, plus Monday’s area results

Coe-Brown 9, Oyster River 5

Key players: Coe-Brown – Madeline Lovett (3-for-4, 2 HR, double, 4 RBI), Brook Orluk (2-for-4; defense at SS), Bella Pelletier (sacrifice bunt), Kylie Bieniek (WP, 8 K)

Highlights: After trailing early, Haile Comeau led off with a double in the third inning, and Pelletier sacrificed her over to third. Bieniek hit a deep sacrifice fly to tie the game up. The Bears scored six runs in the fourth inning, led by Lovett’s first home run, to defeat Oyster River in a rematch of last year’s Division II final.

Highlights: Allberg controlled the circle, allowing just dddone hit in six innings, and her teammates scored runs in the first, second and fourth innings, followed by six runs in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach.

Highlights: Brady jumped out to a 1-0 lead thanks to an RBI double by Bedard in the top of the third that scored Thomas, but the Spartans scored single runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings and the Giants couldn’t plate anymore of their own.

Key players: Hopkinton – Travis Windhurst (1-for-2, walk, 2 runs, SB), Cody Charron (1-for-3, run, RBI), Tad Stokes (1-for-2, RBI)

Highlights: The Hawks took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a Charron RBI-single to center field and a Mike Pantano sacrifice fly to right field to plate Charron. Campbell battled back, scoring one run in the third and fourth innings. The Cougars would score another run in the sixth inning to make it 3-2, before Hopkinton tied the game, 3-3, on a well-executed squeeze by Stokes to scored Windhurst.  In the top of the seventh Campbell hit a pair of two-run singles by  to put the Cougars up by the final score of 7-3.

Highlights: The battle for the top spot in the Division III standings was tight throughout, with multiple lead changes and with no team ever leading by more than three goals. Coe-Brown led at halftime before Hopkinton made a push early in the second half to take the lead, but the Bears scored some goals late in the game to secure the victory. Coe-Brown is in sole possession of first place in D-III, while the Hawks drop to sixth.

Highlights: The Falcons led 4-2 through singles and swept the doubles matches to secure the victory. DeCosta and Sierra Scull had a match-clinching 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles. Laws and Maddy Desrosiers won 8-5 at No. 2 and McCabe and Lilly Gula won a thrilling 9-8 (8-6) match in a tiebreaker.

Highlights: The Cougars swept singles and won No. 2 and No. 3 doubles on Friday afternoon for a decisive victory. Sydney Connolly and Karlie Jundt won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. Bella Palumbo and MacCreighton won 8-5 at No. 3.
