Letter: Science denial on the House Science Committee

Brazen acts of willful ignorance guide the New Hampshire House Science, Technology and Energy (STE) Committee at our expense. I’ve repeatedly asked Chairman Rep. Michael Vose to invite the state’s climatologist to an informational hearing. I want the committee to invite our state expert to refute the myths, half-truths and outright lies that Vose and others seem to believe. He and the GOP majority on his committee do not accept the scientific consensus that global warming is due to climate pollution from fossil fuels and that policy changes are needed for our safety and economic well-being.

Big oil and gas producers publicly accept the science but spend billions of dollars manipulating politics to cause confusion and delay addressing pollution.

Reps. Doug Thomas, J.D. Bernardy and Jeanine Notter play the role of pawns directed by Chairman Vose. Notter has long been active in the game. Democrats on the STE should be commended for their patience, understanding of science and representation of the public’s overwhelming support for HB106, HB306 and HB526, which Republicans ignored. The GOP majority enriched Charles Koch at our expense by deeming bills “Inexpedient to Legislate” on Jan. 21.

Please help me push for a climate science intervention. Ask Chairman Vose to invite New Hampshire’s Climatologist, Dr. Mary Stampone, to the STE. He won’t do it until he hears from more of us. It’s time we put an end to this nonsense.
