The Community Players of Concord will hold auditions for their production of The Gods of Comedy on Sunday, Dec. 8, and Monday, Dec. 9, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Auditions will take place at the Community Players Studio, 435 Josiah Bartlett Road, Concord. The show, a comedy by Ken Ludwig (Lend Me a Tenor, Moon Over Buffalo), will run Feb. 14-16 at the Concord City Auditorium. Betty Lent will direct.

The Gods of Comedy follows the misadventures of college professors Ralph and Daphne, who discover a lost translation of an ancient play by Euripides while vacationing in Greece. Back at their Ivy League campus, their hopes for a triumphant premiere unravel when the manuscript is accidentally destroyed.

In a moment of desperation, Daphne’s plea for help summons two ancient gods, Thalia and Dionysus, who hilariously disrupt campus life just as the professors are preparing for “classics weekend.” With the dean and donors expecting a performance, the chaos intensifies as the gods become distracted by modern college antics, leaving Ralph and Daphne scrambling to save the day.

Those auditioning should review two monologues available on the Community Players of Concord website and prepare to perform them during auditions. Cold readings from the script will also be part of the audition process.
