The New Hampshire English Country Dance Society (NHECDS) will host monthly English dances in Concord at the Auditorium of the Howard Recreation Center (HRC), located at the intersection of Brown and Kent Roads on the Gallen State Office Park campus. Dances take place on Sundays from September through June, excluding July and August. The next event is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 5, with an introductory class at 2:30 p.m. and dancing from 3 to 6 p.m.

English country dancing is a traditional form of social dancing that dates back to the 17th century and is known for its graceful movements and emphasis on group participation. The dances are open to anyone 18 years or older, and no prior experience or partner is necessary. Each dance is taught before the music begins and is prompted throughout by a caller. Experienced dancers will be on hand to help newcomers learn the steps and figures.

Attendees are encouraged to wear casual, comfortable clothing and clean, soft-soled shoes to protect the wooden floor of the auditorium. High heels are not permitted for safety reasons. While it is customary—but not required—to change partners for each dance, participants are welcome to attend solo, with a friend, or as part of a group.

The welcoming and inclusive environment makes these events ideal for beginners and experienced dancers alike. English country dancing provides opportunities to meet new people, enjoy live music, and experience a unique and engaging activity that promotes community and movement.

The dances are held in the spacious and accessible HRC Auditorium, a venue conveniently located on the Gallen State Office Park campus in Concord. Attendees can use Google Maps to find the location at the intersection of Brown and Kent Roads.

NHECDS hosts these events monthly (except in July and August) as part of their mission to preserve and promote the tradition of English country dancing. Whether you are looking for a fun afternoon activity, a way to stay active, or an opportunity to connect with others, these dances offer a welcoming and supportive environment.

Admission is free, and all participants aged 18 and older are invited to join in the fun. The organizers encourage new dancers to take advantage of the introductory session at 2:30 p.m., where basic steps and patterns will be taught. Dancing follows from 3 to 6 p.m.
