Hundreds of protesters swarmed downtown Concord with a common purpose to condemn President Donald Trump’s administration.
They were angry about enhanced immigration enforcement, disruptive tariffs, cuts to federal programs and what they saw as an unconstitutional abuse of power, including the idea that Trump would run for a third term.
Their unified message: Trump does not represent them.
“He's just so full of hatred and bigotry, and it's really just spreading across the country in an awful way,” said Alyssa Boyd, from Washington, New Hampshire. “I think people are just sick and tired of it. We're supposed to be moving forward, not backward. And I think this is the time now where people just want to speak up and they want to put an end to it.”
The rally was part of a coordinated series of demonstrations across the country and the sixth one in Concord since Trump took office, each growing larger than the previous one. Protesters – some bore signs saying they weren’t paid to be there – crammed into the State House plaza and lined Main Street from Park Street to School Street.
“I'm out here because I believe that we need to stand up against what's going on right now,” Boyd said. “We can't just sit back and let our rights and our freedoms be taken away. I feel like too many people are compliant right now about what's going on, and I just don't want to go down in history of not doing anything.”
Saturday’s event was held later in the day because of the annual Easter Egg hunt held on the State House lawn in the morning.
Even Spencer the billy goat wore a sign. His said, “Get Out Autocrats Today.”
