SNHU, UNH international students and graduates face status terminations and visa revocations

The federal government has revoked visas and terminated the student status of some international students and graduates at Southern New Hampshire University.
Siobhan Lopez, director of media relations at SNHU, said the government did not inform the university of the status changes. Rather, the university became aware of the changes through its “proactive monitoring” of Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) database.
These status changes coincide with news that three former University of New Hampshire students had their SEVIS records terminated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, as confirmed to the Monitor on Friday by Tania DeLuzuriaga, executive director of media relations at the university.
SNHU has not specified the number of campus-based international students or graduates were impacted by the status changes.
Lopez said in a statement that the university “did not work with federal agencies to proactively supply any student information related to these status revocations” but that it will comply with lawfully issued warrants, subpoenas, and record requests “while protecting the legal rights of the university and our community members.”
“Our international students are a vital part of our university who bring diverse perspectives, rich cultural experiences, and unique academic strengths that enhance our entire campus,” the statement continued. “Our students and employees are our top priority, and we will continue to focus on supporting them.”
