Rescue teams search Merrimack River for man presumed drowned

First responders searched for the body of a man believed to have drowned in the Merrimack River in the area of the Merrimack Street Bridge Thursday.

Multiple calls reporting a person in the water, described as a man in his twenties, came in around 2 p.m.

An initial response involving boats from Concord, Bow and Allenstown and a state police helicopter was not able to locate the man, according to Concord Fire Chief John Chisholm. Around 3:45 p.m. the search transitioned from a rescue to a recovery effort and Concord Police, State Fish and Game and Marine Patrol officials took over.

Emergency calls reported that the man had jumped from the bridge.
