A pickup truck that was submerged in an icy pond in Bow for over a week was finally pulled out on Tuesday, officials said.

It began on Jan. 17, when a 17-year-old driver took his silver Toyota Tacoma onto the frozen surface of Turee Pond, about a third of a mile from the boat launch behind Bow High School. 

According to Lieutenant Matthew Pratte, the teen drove into a marshy area where the ice was thin.

“He kept driving onto it until the front of the truck sank in,” Pratte said.

The teenager managed to escape without injury, but within hours, the truck had slipped beneath the ice entirely. It remained submerged for 12 days before crews were able to recover it.

The police department did not issue a fine, but Pratte said the fire department reported the incident to the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services. If a fine is issued, it will be up to the state agency to decide.
