Letter: Ruth & Ed for NH House District 4

Are you a resident of Canterbury or Loudon? There are two great candidates for the NH House of Representatives for your district, Merrimack District 4, Ruth Heath & Ed Friedrich. Ruth’s reason for running is to provide a safe healthy livable future for our children and grandchildren. She believes “Quality education from kindergarten through college is the backbone of a sound economy.” This belief comes from her teaching experiences from Head Start to NHTI where she was an assistant professor of math. Ed, who has a different experience as a U.S. Navy and Marine Corps veteran, and 45 years in hospitality management, shares the same goals. He supports women’s reproductive rights, a strong public education, and fair property taxes.

Both Ed & Ruth support fair taxes and education. These goals are directly linked in NH where more than 80% of our property taxes go to education. The current NH Department of Education has promoted paying for homeschooling, religious school, etc. This is effectively a tax increase. When money comes out of education funds for vouchers etc., towns still need to raise funds to make up for that drain. Public schools still need the same number of teachers, administrators and the same capital costs. To pay for the shortfall in school funding, towns raise taxes. If you believe in public education, fair taxes, women’s reproductive rights, and reducing long-term energy costs. I encourage you to vote for Ruth Heath & Ed Friedrich.
