Letter: Educate NH citizens

The redefining of words and ideals by the courts, and the cherry picking of language from the Constitution is unacceptable in an educated society, especially when people have access to the world’s dictionaries and laws at their fingertips. Citizens in NH through election of their government have the duty to protect and keep, i.e. cherish the ideals of seminaries and public schools. They are to encourage, give patronage and support to private and public institutions per [Art.] 83 of their Constitution. Our Legislature has provided for education of all citizens through. RSA 189:1 A Duty to Provide an Education: “It shall be the duty of the school board to provide at district expense education to all pupils who reside in the district.”

This statute went into effect in 1996 and was expanded and clarified, over the years, lastly in 2023. This statute is fully constitutional. Whose duty is it provide and education? And whose duty to enforce the laws? Mr. Rand’s is not alone in his concern about his education taxes. Perhaps, a run for school board or being present at budget meetings would be more effective then becoming a pawn in a misguided lawsuit. As for the coalition communities perhaps your cash cow needs to return to her pasture, and the state needs enforce the laws that you helped establish. If school boards have trouble fulfilling their duty, then let them apply for supplemental aid.
