Logan Clegg, convicted last fall of murdering Steve and Wendy Reid when they went for a walk near their Concord home, has appealed his case.
He received two 50-year to life sentences, which he is currently serving at the state prison.
The New Hampshire Supreme Court has not yet formally accepted Clegg’s appeal. It typically does for violent crime cases, though that could take as long as three months, according to the state Department of Justice’s website.
At his sentencing in December, Clegg asserted his innocence and declared his belief that his conviction would be overturned.
“No man with any pride or dignity gives up just because it was a single battle,” he said. “Especially when he knows he was in the right.”
A six-month investigation involving local, state and federal law enforcement into the Reid’s murders identified Clegg as the only suspect. When police found and arrested him in Burlington, Vermont in October, 2022, they discovered the murder weapon, a one-way ticket to Germany and $7,100 in his possession.
A year later, after a three-week trial, a 16-member jury found Clegg guilty on all nine charges he faced — four of second-degree murder, four of falsifying evidence and one of firearm possession as a convicted felon. His sentencing, the amount recommended by state prosecutors, meant he would spend the rest of his life in prison.
Clegg’s appeal was filed on Jan. 14, in the final hours of the 30-day deadline for criminal appeals.
