Power was expected to be restored by Tuesday evening to the remaining customers in the Concord area who had remained in the dark for nearly three days following a Saturday snow and ice storm.

Dozens of broken utility poles led to delays in restoring power in the towns of Webster, Hopkinton, Weare and Henniker, Eversource spokesperson William Hinkle explained in an email.

In Webster, most of the utility’s customers were without power until late Tuesday afternoon. But by the time most people came home from work, the lights were back on.

Hinkle said all customers in the hardest hit areas of Hopkinton, Weare, and Henniker were expected to have power restored Tuesday evening.

The damage was most severe in and around the Concord area as ice hung on limbs, sending trees and branches crashing down on wires.

“There are a few larger outages in the Webster and Hopkinton areas, which were among the hardest-hit by the substantial icing, where we had damage to almost every pole on certain streets requiring us to stop at every pole to make repairs,” Hinkle wrote Tuesday. “This work has been further complicated by narrow roads that are at times single lanes, which can slow progress as local traffic approaches.”

Unitil, which also serves the region, had restored power to all customers as of Tuesday afternoon.
