Gov. Chris Sununu called the indictment of a New Hampshire Supreme Court Justice an “extremely serious situation” on Thursday after Anna Hantz Marconi was charged with two felonies and five misdemeanors Wednesday afternoon.

“Everyone needs to be held, especially public servants, to a very high standard,” Sununu said.

The indictment centers around attempts to interfere with an investigation of her husband, Geno Marconi, head of the state’s Division of Ports and Harbors. Hantz Marconi allegedly misused her position and tried to interfere with the investigation.

Three of the charges center on apparent interactions between Hantz Marconi and Sununu, in which the attorney general alleges she tried to get the governor to influence and interfere with the investigation.

Sununu declined to comment on those specific charges.

John Formella, the attorney general, said in a statement yesterday that the investigation of Hantz Marconi didn’t find wrongdoing from anyone else.

On Thursday afternoon, shortly after the governor’s comments, Formella announced the indictment of the justice’s husband on charges of witness tampering, falsifying evidence and four other misdemeanors.
