Authorities have identified Paul L. Naves, 80, and Catherine A. Naves, 77, as the victims of a Wednesday morning fire at a duplex in Weare.

Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Mitchell Weinberg reported that Paul's death was determined to be natural, while Catherine's death was ruled accidental.

The Weare Fire Department responded to a call at 83A High Rock Road at approximately 10:44 a.m., according to Fire Chief Mark Roarick.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from a second-story window. The fire was contained to a single room on the second floor and extinguished by 11:10 a.m.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office, along with the Weare police and fire departments, is working to determine the fire's origin and cause.
