A Concord bicyclist died after he was struck by car on South Main Street Wednesday afternoon.

Joel Bashaw, 61, was transported to Concord Hospital after being struck near the intersection of Holly Street and South Main Street. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. Concord Police responded to reports of the crash around 3:15 p.m.

Parts of South Main and Holly Streets were closed until about 8 p.m., police said.

With a crash investigation ongoing, police would not release the name of the driver, who was not injured, or whether any charges are expected.

Notably, Holly Street, an unlined neighborhood road, has no stop sign where it empties onto South Main Street near S&W Sports. There is no bike lane on that stretch of the thoroughfare.
