Concord police charged a Manchester man with attempted murder and other crimes following a shooting in the city early Saturday morning.

Police were called to Eagle Square around 1 a.m. on Saturday following reports that a man had been shot just as bars in the area were closing for the night. The first officers on the scene administered first aid to the victim until paramedics arrived and transported him to Concord Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Police said multiple people witnessed the altercation and shooting.

On Thursday, police arrested James Daniels, 34, of Manchester and charged him with attempted murder, first-degree assault with a firearm, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, and being a felon in possession of a dangerous weapon. Officers in Concord and Manchester worked together to locate and arrest Daniels, police said.

“Initial investigation has indicated that all involved parties were patronizing a restaurant/bar in the area prior to the shooting,” police said in a statement Saturday.

Eagle Square, located near the intersection of Capitol and N. Main streets in downtown Concord, is the home to two bars – Tandy’s Pub and Grille and Chuck’s BARbershop. Paramedics from Tri-Town ambulance responded to the scene of the shooting because the Concord Fire Department was busy fighting a blaze on Rumford Street at the same time.

Daniels is being at the Merrimack County House of Correction in Boscawen. He is scheduled to be arraigned at Merrimack County Superior Court at 1 p.m. on Friday.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact the Concord Police Department at (603) 225-8600.
