A Concord police officer was terminated after his arrest in Manchester for reckless conduct with a deadly weapon earlier this month.

Manchester police said they arrested Jamel Vilmont, 28, on Jan. 3 after an investigation found he had shot a gun into a neighbor’s apartment.

Vilmont was dismissed from his job as a Concord police officer the same day, according to Deputy Chief John Thomas.

Vilmont’s neighbor called Manchester police early that morning after waking to find a bullet had torn a hole in the wall and broken glass in the kitchen. The neighbor reported hearing a loud bang around 2 am. No one was injured.

The shot came from a Vilmont’s apartment, Manchester police said.

The gun was not a department weapon, according to Thomas.

Vilmont was released on personal recognizance bail and his arraignment was set for Feb. 8.

Having held his position for a few days shy of a year, Vilmot was a probationary officer. He was hired on Jan. 8, 2023, and the probation period in the department is one year, Thomas said. There are now 16 officer vacancies, out of 90 total positions at the Concord Police Department.
