As part of an annual look at what city employees are paid, the Monitor created an interactive database of the total wages of all Concord employees in the 2024 calendar year.

An analysis found that the fire department saw a nearly 50% increase in overtime payments, with persistent vacancies driving a rise in mandated extra shifts.

Comparing rank and file members of the fire and police departments, however, it was police officers who saw the largest rise in total wages last year — a result of two rounds of cash retention bonuses approved by Concord City Council. The average patrol officer got a 25% increase in pay, while rising overtime meant the average firefighter saw a 9% increase.

The average individual employee citywide was paid about $78,000, and for the first time since 2021, no women were included in the city’s top ten highest earners. This data is collected by calendar year by the city — it may not align with tallies in the fiscal year budget, which starts July 1.
