Letter: The golden rule

I recently retired from my oral surgery practice after 36 years, a career I thoroughly enjoyed. I have tried to live my personal and professional life following the “Golden Rule,” treating everyone as I would want to be treated. I believe honesty, integrity, courage, humility and morality are essential qualities in a person and essential qualities of the people that we choose as our leaders. Prior to the 2016 election, I did not pay close attention to politics. I felt that the people running for office, were on the whole, decent people. During the primaries, I could not understand how a candidate who was the antithesis of what I believed in, was winning, and then became president of the United States.

He lies too many times to count, he says he’s a good business man, but has gone bankrupt multiple times, and doesn’t pay many of the contractors he employs. He calls our soldiers who have died, “suckers and losers” and was himself a draft dodger. He has cheated on his wives, had an affair with a porn star, and has been found liable for sexual assault. He also boasts about things that are obvious lies and is unencumbered by the truth. These failings to me, disqualify him from becoming president again, no matter what one feels about his policies. I will proudly be voting for someone who I believe embodies these values. I will be voting for Kamala Harris to lead America on a New Way Forward.
