Letter: Immigrants are needed

Are you native American? If not, your ancestors, like mine, immigrated from a foreign country. Did they come through Ellis Island, or did they, like many, get on any ship coming to the USA and land at any port on any coast, or come through the Canadian/American border without papers? I suspect we all know many families that did just that. Were they all upstanding citizens? No, but the majority were, they worked hard, became citizens and the descendants are prospering now. The immigrants that are coming through the southern border are exactly the same. Those that are coming now want a better life for their families, they are either starving, suffering religious persecution or living under unbearable conditions.

Parents, you love your children, how much would you have to be suffering to send your children, walking thousands of miles, so they might have a better life? That’s what these parents are doing. Yes, there are “bad guys” bringing in drugs, but they are not the majority. That would stop if the citizens of this country would stop using. Have you ever considered why Europe doesn’t have a drug problem? What is needed at the border is more government agents and entrance areas to screen all these immigrants, just like at Ellis Island. They come to work hard, not take a job from anyone in this country. The workforce has diminished. The population in this country is dying at a greater rate than the birth rate. You want to keep your Social Security and Medicare benefits? Do the math.
