Letter: Don’t fall for it

President Biden’s favorite warning is that our very democracy is threatened. That’s his standard preface to a call for the restraint of his political opponents. His administration’s ‘Project Democracy’ efforts are pure spin with no basis in fact, though. We don’t live in a democracy. The American way is that of the constitutional republic. Our state and federal constitutions guarantee representative government and minority rights, via rule of law. That’s quite different than the tyranny of the 51%. The Ancient Greeks tried pure democracy. The Soviets, Cubans and others all did, too. Every such attempt failed. In each instance, the tyranny of the 51% was soon replaced by the tyranny of one dictator. In each instance, the people paid the price for that dissolution.

Every American should proudly support our republic. That’s all that really protects us from tyranny. Today, however, we see weaponized government and ‘lawfare’ by publicly funded Departments of Justice. These are real threats to individuals, few of whom have the resources to battle all the taxpayer dollars they are up against. But Mr. Biden remains shrill in his fearmongering, while also remaining dedicated to undoing the rule of law, simply by ignoring it. Don’t fall for it, folks. Thomas Jefferson said it: “That government is best that governs least.” Please re-read your auto registration plate: Live Free or Die! Happily, in 2024, you won’t have to actually die. You’ll still be able to live free by simply voting for candidates committed to supporting our Republic.
