Letter: Help NH cut pollution and save taxpayer money

Would you like to see the New Hampshire state government reduce its pollution while saving taxpayer money? It can do so by investing more in state building energy efficiency, considering electric vehicles where appropriate for state use, and favoring heat pumps over fossil fuel boilers for future state building heating needs. You can help the state do all that by supporting HB 1486. It takes just a few minutes to support a bill online (see newhampshirenetwork.org/NH-bills). This is important to do because citizen input can influence legislators’ decisions when we do it together. And if you are able to spend a few hours on this project, attend the Executive Departments and Administration Committee hearing in person and provide a few minutes of testimony in support of the bill.
Tell your representatives you want New Hampshire to do its part to reduce pollution and this bill will help avoid wasteful spending of tax dollars. The hearing is scheduled on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. in the Legislative Office Building (Room 306-308). You can learn how the “proxy carbon pricing” approach works in the description of the bill, and how this bill will save significant New Hampshire taxpayer dollars by anticipating a future federal carbon price on fossil fuels at bit.ly/carbon-price-gap.Then share this with your family and friends. Our level of influence depends on how many of us participate.
