With all that New Hampshire has to offer, it is easy to find accommodations just right for any occasion and for any budget. Here are just a few of the many special lodging options available for a memorable stay.

Mount Washington Resort

A sense of grandeur awaits as you drive past sweeping mountain ranges, and along the long driveway up to grand white columns and the red-topped turrets and gables. The Omni Mount Washington Resort at 310 Mount Washington Hotel Road, in Bretton Woods is a great getaway, whether you plan to stay overnight, or simply enjoy some of the amenities of the resort for the day. The building itself is steeped in history, and is listed as a National Historic Landmark. Around most nooks, crannies, and corners of the resort are beautifully restored and maintained glimpses of history, complete with downloadable facts and tour guides to help as you explore the resort. The property features generous views of the mountains, and wide porches with comfortable seats designed to encourage guests to relax and enjoy the surroundings. One of the many advantages of the resort is that each guest can find as much – or as little – to do as suits them. There is a golf course, swimming pools, hot tubs, signature spa, gift shops, fire pits, and many more activities like horseback riding, mountain biking, fly fishing, and exploring to take advantage of, and when that helps work up an appetite, enjoy the fine dining available at Stickney’s, or in the Main Dining Room – each serving up masterful flavor combinations and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.

The Black Swan Inn

The Black Swan Inn at 354 West Main Street in Tilton is a bed & breakfast inn situated along the banks of the Winnipesaukee River, along Route 3. The house itself was built in 1880 by Selwyn Peabody, who owned the textile mill just down the road. The home changed hands in ownership a few times since then, and was purchased to serve as a bed & breakfast in 1986. Current owners, John and Trisha Basiliere, purchased the home in 2013, and have worked to provide guests with things they have appreciated about their own visits to inns over the years.

John explains “We stayed in a lot of bed and breakfast accommodations, so we wanted to make sure that we maintained very high standards. We wanted to make sure the rooms and the beds were comfortable and we wanted to leave kind of a Victorian feel, but not feel like you’re in a museum park.”

The building itself boasts history in architecture, and the atmosphere of the inn lends itself to relaxing with a book from the library, or simply enjoying a view of the river. The cozy charm continues as you head to your guest room, and enjoy a delicious breakfast and coffee the following morning.

Not only is the Black Swan Inn a treasure for locals to find, but larger audiences will also discover the inn (perhaps unwittingly) while watching the 2023 movie released to Amazon Prime, “Witch of the Woods,” which was partially filmed at the inn!

Lake Opechee Inn and Spa

The Lake Opechee Inn and Spa located at 62 Doris Ray Ct., in Laconia is tucked away in an unassuming corner of Lakeport, overlooking the scenic Opechee Lake. Although it seems to be in the midst of a bustling intersection, flanked by some great restaurants like Fratello’s, and O Steaks and Seafood (their own signature restaurant) as you turn the corner into the driveway of the inn, a sense of quiet charm descends. Accommodations here feature tailored rooms, individually decorated with their own special flair. Each room features a fireplace and fine quality linens, and some of the rooms even include a two-person whirlpool spa tub, private balcony, and views of the lake. Far from being fussy, however, comfortable luxury is key here.

Those seeking a deeper level of relaxation can take advantage of the spa services onsite, or for more active pursuits, there are plenty of nearby activities to keep you busy. Shopping at the Tanger Outlets or in the nearby boutiques of Meredith, a visit to Hermit Woods Winery, hiking, and biking are all just a short drive away.

Pawtuckaway State Park

If gathering around a campfire and sleeping under the stars is more your style, Pawtuckaway State Park, located at 128 Mountain Rd. in Nottingham, is a great option.  Pawtuckaway State Park conveniently sits less than 40 minutes from the coastal beaches to the east, but with the hiking, mountain biking, boating, swimming, and fishing, right there at the campground you may feel reluctant to leave the natural beauty already around you.

Although Pawtuckaway is on the larger side when it comes to local campgrounds, many of the sites are surprisingly secluded.  The sites are nicely nestled among the trees, and some of the sites provide views of the lake.  Of course, no campsite would be complete without an open fireplace, and picnic table, and Pawtuckaway does not disappoint, as each site includes those essentials, as well as flat camp  areas for a tent, as well as a parking space.  Those who enjoy tent camping, as well as those more comfortable with an RV are welcome at the campground, although there are no hook-ups  for the RV or pop-up campers.  Modern conveniences, (camp-style,) are available, however, complete with running water, flush toilet facilities, coin-operated showers, and a camp store.

The campground boasts 195 campsites, and requires reservations. For reservations and more information, visit online at newhampshirestateparks.reserveamerica.com.
