Girls’ Volleyball

Winnisquam 3, Hanover 2

Highlights: Winnisquam defeated visiting Hanover in a battle of the two Bears programs in five sets, 14-25, 26-24, 20-25, 25-21, 15-7, to win its first match of the season.

Records: Winnisquam 1-2; Hanover 0-3

Somersworth 3, Coe-Brown 2

Key players: Coe-Brown – Emma Zeblisky (15 kills), Kelli Daniel (6 kills), Stella Vachon (5 kills, 2 blocks)

Highlights: The Bears dropped the second and third sets to trail 2-1, but got back on the attack from the service line, on defense and at the net, and battled to take the match to five sets. Coe-Brown 14-3 in the deciding set before regrouping and rattling off seven straight points before ultimately falling, 15-10.

Coach’s quote: “Tonight we battled an incredibly well-rounded team with strong defense and a lot of firepower. When we kept our foot on the gas and played each ball as it’s own game, good things happened. We are not the same team we were a short seven days ago and I’m proud.” – Coe-Brown’s Renee Zobel

Highlights: The Generals’ offense had its most prolific game of the season and Fredette etched her name in program history by scoring her 100th career point.

Highlights: The Spartans kept the game close in the first half, trailing just 1-0, but the Falcons scored four times in the second.

Highlights: The Giants scored a pair of goals in the first quarter and had a 7-1 advantage in penalty corners to control the rest of the game.

Boys’ Soccer

Key players: MV – Joey Olivera (2 goals), Kaidan Tucker (goal), Gavin Anderson (goal), Eli Wormand (2 assists), Jacob Baggett (goalie), Carsyn Perkins (assist)

Highlights: Olivera opened up the scoring with a ball played by Wormald and the Pride continued to pressure Hollis, with Olivera scoring again and Anderson scoring off a corner kick to make it 3-0 at halftime. The Cavaliers scored early in the second half, but Tucker scored to make it 4-1 off an assist from Perkins, who did a good job working the ball through the midfield and beating multiple defenders before sliding it across the box.

Coach’s quote: “We are glad to get the win, but this team knows they are capable of playing at a higher level. We made some mistakes during the game that hurt us at times. I was happy to see some of the guys coming off the bench and bring the level up.” – MV’s Ken Fuller

Highlights: The Falcons kept the Sachems off the board to remain undefeated. Laconia is still looking for its first goal of the season. Wallen opened the scoring 6:30 into the match off a through ball from Farr. Larochelle scored her first varsity goal off a corner kick, and Murphy scored off a feed from Gelinas. Van Dyke scored three minutes into the second half on a great feed from Wallen. The final goal was Lupien playing a perfect through ball to Brylie Gelinas, who crossed the ball into the box where Kennedy beat the keeper and redirected it into the net.

Highlights: The Hillcats’ offense provided a few opportunities to score, but they couldn’t capitalize. 

Coach’s quote: “Campbell is a strong, skilled and disciplined soccer team. Our girls put up a good fight in the first half, only trailing by two, but Campbell’s offense intensified in the second half of the game. We hope to use today’s game to be better prepared for Friday.” – H-D’s Jenna Rheault

Hopkinton 3, Prospect Mountain 1

Highlights: The Hawks scored the only goal of the first half and then added another in the second before Prospect Mtn. got on the board to made it 2-1. Senior striker Serzans made sure to put the game away with her second goal.

Highlights: The Tide bested Keene in a tiebreaker in a match at Bretwood Golf Course. Concord had the better sixth golfer to break the tie.

Key players:  The Falcons swept a tri-meet on their home course at Beaver Meadow on Tuesday.

Coach’s quote: “Some really great golf played by our group today. Jake’s play today was special with three birdies and six pars. The rest of our guys put up some great scores, but also had to grind. We are encouraged by seeing the mental toughness on the course today.” – Bow’s Matt Davis
