High schools: Worster, Taylor, Golden lead Concord Alpine skiing with podium finishes, plus Thursday’s area basketball results

Girls’ Alpine Skiing

Bedford 747, Concord 744, Winnacunnet 717, Keene 707, Manchester Central 673, Manchester Memorial 271

Key players: Concord – Ellie Worster (1st GS, 1st slalom), Mika Taylor (2nd slalom, 3rd GS), Emma Pelletier (16th GS), Lilly Merrill (10th slalom, 17th GS), Sadie Pelletier (19th slalom)

Highlights: Led by Worster and Taylor, Concord and Bedford tied at the top of the standings in the giant slalom with 369 points each, and the Bulldogs won the slalom 378-375 to take the overall victory at Pats Peak on Thursday. Worster won the giant slalom by .41 seconds, but dominated the slalom, winning it by 5.37 seconds.

Coach’s quote:  “The girls had another strong performance at Pats Peak. They are showing to be a top team in Division I with two more weeks of the regular season. We had some strong individual results throughout the running order which made it a true team event. Ellie and Mika continue to show their strength in both GS and slalom.” – Concord’s George Golden

Boys’ Alpine Skiing

Bedford 775, Keene 743, Concord 723, Winnacunnet 629, Manchester Central 580, Manchester Memorial 169

Key players: Concord – Lucas Golden (1st GS, 2nd slalom), Eugenne Conn (10th GS, 11th slalom), Austin Vanacore (10th slalom, 16th GS), Ethan Audent (22nd slalom, 26th GS)

Highlights: Golden won the giant slalom by .06 seconds and finished second in the slalom to lead the Tide at Pats Peak on Thursday. Concord finished fourth in the giant slalom portion, but third in the slalom to finish third overall.

Coach’s quote:  “The boys had their best team result of the season. With a team of only four boys, there is little to no room for mistakes and all four boys finished all of their runs today. Lucas continues to lead the team with two more podium finishes.” – Concord’s George Golden

Bishop Brady 56, Kennett 26

Key players: Bishop Brady – Claire Jackson (23 points), Payton Bryson (21 points), Maia Dow (8 points)

Highlights: Jackson scored 11 of her game-high 23 points in the first quarter to help the Giants jump out to a 23-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and Brady led 29-5 at halftime for a convincing victory on the road. Bryson scored 13 of her points in the second half.

Coe-Brown 54, Timberlane 49

Key players: Coe-Brown – Emma Lapierre (22 points), Hannah Meehan (14 points), Eliah Crawn (8 points), Bella Wiggin (8 points); Timberlane – Sam Mooney (27 points)

Highlights: Timberlane led 27-25 at halftime thanks to seven 3-pointers from Mooney, but Coe-Brown went on a 19-11 run in the third to take a 44-38 lead into the fourth. The Owls took a one-point lead in the middle of the fourth quarter, but the Bears hit big shots and connected on their free throws down the stretch to take the win.

Merrimack Valley 61, Pelham 45

Key players: MV – Kayla Smith (25 points), Izzy Navoy (18 points)

Highlights: MV led 32-17 at halftime. Pelham cut the Pride’s lead to 37-32 heading into the fourth quarter, but MV extended its lead over the final eight minutes.

Coach’s quote: “Girls played with a lot of energy to open the game and we built a lead. Pelham battled back but we were able to have a strong fourth to close it out. Nice team win.” – MV’s Bob McNutt

Boys’ Basketball

Pelham 77, Merrimack Valley 67, OT

Key players: Pelham  – Brady Hegan (19 points); MV – Aiden Gray (22 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists), Nic Oglesby (12 points, 9 rebounds), Boston Bradicich (5 points, 13 rebounds, 4 blocks)

Highlights: MV’s Ethan Dukette sunk three free throws with less than a second remaining in the game to force OT, but the defending champions eventually handed the Pride their first loss of the season in a back-and-forth contest.

Coach’s quote: “A great D-II game tonight in Pelham. We had our opportunities to put the game away, but Pelham kept responding. No time to dwell on the loss as we travel to Brady on Saturday afternoon.” – MV’s Kelly O'Brien
