A domestic incident in Bow on Sunday night prompted a shelter-in-place order after gunfire erupted at a home on Hooksett Turnpike.
Bow police responded around 7:40 p.m. to a report of a woman and her two children, who had safely evacuated the residence as a gunshot was fired during their exit, according to a press release.
Upon arrival, police found the front door open and a vehicle still in the driveway, leaving it unclear whether the person involved had fled or remained inside. Out of caution, officers established a perimeter and called for assistance from nearby law enforcement agencies. A shelter-in-place order was issued for nearby residents as the Central New Hampshire Special Operations Unit worked to clear the home.
Officers from New Hampshire State Police, along with departments from Hooksett, Hopkinton, Dunbarton, Concord, Merrimack County Sheriff’s Office, Henniker Police, and the Bow Fire Department also responded.
After completing their search, the shelter order was lifted, and an individual was discovered deceased inside the house from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
By 11:30 p.m., Hooksett Turnpike was reopened, and assisting agencies cleared the area, while Bow police remained at the scene.
Authorities confirmed no ongoing threat to public safety, but the incident remains under investigation.
