Letter: Stop the unfair comparison

Pembroke is unfairly painted with a broad brush regarding last March’s school funding cuts. In feature stories and editorials, Pembroke is being compared with Croydon, which proposed to cut a school district budget of $1,700,000 budget to $800,000, a reduction of 47%.

As vice chairman of the Pembroke Budget Committee, I know that Pembroke cut its budget of $34,000,000 by $3,000,000, a reduction of less than 9%. If Pembroke had cut $15,500,000, five times the actual cut, it would be in league with Croydon, but until that happens can we please discontinue that grossly unfair comparison?
