Hopkinton pressured well on defense and maintained long possessions on offense. Strong transition and relentless ground balls helped them maintain ball control. Bishop Brady pushed the ball nicely, but the Hawks’ stalwart defense held them outside and goalie Boissy did the rest.

Coach’s quote: “We played a really solid and complete game today. We were smart with the ball and stayed disciplined all over the field. The guys are working really well together right now and we will carry this momentum into our big game against Coe-Brown on Saturday.” – Hopkinton’s Deacon Blue

Girls’ Lacrosse

Hopkinton 18, Milford 1

Key players: Hopkinton – Sarah Chodosh (4 goals, 2 assists, draw control), Sydney Westover (3 goals, assist, 9 draw controls), Marcella Guadagno (2 goals, 2 assists, caused turnover), Avery Chase (3 goals, draw control, 3 ground balls), Lia Chapin (2 goals, assist, 2 draw controls, 3 caused turnovers, ground ball), Maeve Owens (2 goals), Lilly Chodosh (2 assists, ground ball), Helen Yeaton (goal, ground ball, caused turnover), Veronica Nylund (goal, ground ball), Molly Hodgdon (assist), Viola Pietrabissi (5 saves)

Highlights: The Hawks excelled in all areas of the game, took an early lead, and extended it against a Spartan squad that battled until the final whistle. Ten different Hopkinton players were involved in the scoring. The Hawks distributed the ball well, scoring 10 assisted goals, while the defense and goalie play was also excellent.

Coach’s quote: “Psyched to see goalie Viola Pietrabissa get her first varsity win, and Helen Yeaton and Lia Chapin scoring their first varsity goals. Moving our feet, playing with our heads up, and moving the ball showed Hopkinton lacrosse at its best today.” – Hopkinton co-coach Gus Madden

Records: Hopkinton 5-2; Milford 0-5

Baseball

Inter-Lakes 6, Hopkinton 1

Key players: Hopkinton – Devin Allen (1-for-3, double, RBI), Tyler Czarkowski (1-for-3, run), Nate Windhurst (1-for-3, stolen base), Travis Windhurst (1-for-3)

Highlights: Hopkinton freshman pitcher Michael DePiano cruised through the first three innings and battled the rain well in his first varsity start on the mound, but the Lakers loaded the bases and went up 3-0 in the fourth inning on a hit batter and two passed balls. Allen’s RBI double down the left field line scored Czarkowski (singled to center) for the Hawks’ only run. Hopkinton loaded the bases in the top of the sixth and tried tagging up to score on a fly ball to left-center field when Inter-Lakes’ Ben Beaudoin made a perfect throw to the plate to get the Hawk runner out.

Coach’s quote: “While this loss is a tough one, our approach at the plate was good as we forced Inter-Lakes to make 20 plays out of the 21 outs.  In a game that featured rain and a wet field, that’s how we want to challenge the other team defensively. Unfortunately, there were too many routine fly balls and hard hit line drives were right at the Lakers’ players. After the third inning we made four errors and put six runners on via a walk or hit batter.” – Hopkinton’s Kevin Hill

Records: Inter-Lakes 2-4; Hopkinton 2-5

Highlights: MV scored four runs in the first, and tallied single runs in the second and fifth innings to secure a victory in a game shortened due to the weather and field conditions.

Coach's quote: “Jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first inning and secured the victory. It was a good, competitive contest.” – MV’s Kevin O’Brien

Records: MV 4-2; Pembroke 1-6

Hopkinton 5, Bishop Brady 2

Highlights: Elrick pitched a great game from the circle, and Holmes and Boudette made huge catches in the outfield to end a potentially big inning for Brady, lifting Hopkinton to its first win of the season.

Coaches’ quotes: “It was nice to get that elusive first win. We had contributions from several players and needed to play clean defense against Brady as they are tough outs and very fast on the bases. Looking to build on this momentum.” – Hopkinton’s Liz Kovar

“This was a tough game for us from the start. We just couldn’t get anything going. Learn and grow from this loss.” – Bishop Brady’s Shane Baron
