Highlights: The Hawks led 10-0 at halftime, but the Giants kept it even in the third to make it 12-2. After a delay caused by thunder at the start of the fourth, Hopkinton kept the pressure up with a 3-0 run to seal the deal. Hopkinton pressured well on defense and maintained long possessions on offense. Strong transition and relentless ground balls helped them maintain ball control. Bishop Brady pushed the ball nicely, but the Hawks’ stalwart defense held them outside and goalie Boissy did the rest.

Highlights: Weather caused a 30-minute weather delay with 5:28 left in the third quarter, but the Pride’s high lacrosse IQ helped Valley early and MV came out of the delay with high energy to gain the momentum down the stretch.

Key players: Kearsarge – Eliot Asbury (2 goals, assist), Davin Selby (goal), Quinn Cusick (goal), Sawyer Slayton (assist), Brodie Malynowski (17 saves)

Highlights: Although Laconia had a slow start, the Sachems managed to end the first half with a commanding 5-1 lead. Kearsarge made a strong comeback in the third quarter and narrowed the lead to 5-4, but costly penalties at crucial moments of the game ultimately allowed Laconia to secure the victory.

Hopkinton 18, Milford 1

Highlights: The Hawks excelled in all areas of the game, took an early lead, and extended it against a Spartan squad that battled until the final whistle. Ten different Hopkinton players were involved in the scoring. The Hawks distributed the ball well, scoring 10 assisted goals, while the defense and goalie play was also excellent.

Baseball

Inter-Lakes 6, Hopkinton 1

Key players: Hopkinton – Devin Allen (1-for-3, double, RBI), Tyler Czarkowski (1-for-3, run), Nate Windhurst (1-for-3, stolen base), Travis Windhurst (1-for-3)

Highlights: Hopkinton freshman pitcher Michael DePiano cruised through the first three innings and battled the rain well in his first varsity start on the mound, but the Lakers loaded the bases and went up 3-0 in the fourth inning on a hit batter and two passed balls. Allen’s RBI double down the left field line scored Czarkowski (singled to center) for the Hawks’ only run. Hopkinton loaded the bases in the top of the sixth and tried tagging up to score on a fly ball to left-center field when Inter-Lakes’ Ben Beaudoin made a perfect throw to the plate to get the Hawk runner out.

Coach’s quote: “While this loss is a tough one, our approach at the plate was good as we forced Inter-Lakes to make 20 plays out of the 21 outs.  In a game that featured rain and a wet field, that’s how we want to challenge the other team defensively. Unfortunately, there were too many routine fly balls and hard hit line drives were right at the Lakers’ players. After the third inning we made four errors and put six runners on via a walk or hit batter.” – Hopkinton’s Kevin Hill

Highlights: MV scored four runs in the first, and tallied single runs in the second and fifth innings to secure a victory in a game shortened due to the weather and field conditions.

Highlights: Elrick pitched a great game from the circle, and Holmes and Boudette made huge catches in the outfield to end a potentially big inning for Brady, lifting Hopkinton to its first win of the season.
